The holidays could be the perfect opportunity to change your mindset about money!
Money becomes a big worry for people around Christmas time. The spending on gifts, travel, parties, decorating and more adds up! But instead of getting overwhelmed or even making bad financial decisions, you can use this season to give you a new outlook on money and level up your financial mindset.
First, take a look at your attitude towards money. During the holidays, your relationship with money might be more noticeable than usual. Do you think that you need to outspend your neighbor or relative? Or do you feel like if you don’t give an expensive gift, your loved ones won’t feel valued? Think about why you’re spending and figure out if that reason will help you or hurt you on your financial journey.
Next, look at what strategies you can use or already use during the holidays. It’s possible that you need to implement those year round. Do you look for sales, bargains and discounts only during Christmas? You could be getting more bang for your buck year round if you shopped intentionally no matter the season. If you already make a detailed Christmas list and plan how you’re going to spend your money, congrats! Now you can make a budget for the upcoming year!
Finally, think about the future. A lot of people focus on getting through Christmas and then deal with whatever happens in January, but by learning how to think ahead and plan for the future, you’re building skills that will help you on your financial journey year round.
